These are the ones my grandmother used to make: warm, flaky, apple-y sweet and drizzled with a sauce that bakes right with them. These are not difficult to make, just a little time-consuming. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.

Steps:
- Heat the oven to 425°F. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Cut in the butter, using a pastry blender or fork, until particles are the size of small peas. Sprinkle with the cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing well with fork until all flour is moistened. Gather the dough together, and press it into a 6x4-inch rectangle.
- Lightly sprinkle flour over a cutting board or countertop. Cut off 1/3 of the dough with a knife; set aside. On the floured surface, place 2/3 of the dough. Flatten dough evenly, using hands or a rolling pin, into a 14-inch square; cut into 4 squares. Flatten the remaining 1/3 of the dough into a 14x7-inch rectangle; cut into 2 squares. You will have 6 squares of dough.
- Remove the stem end from each apple. Place the apple on a cutting board. Using a paring knife, cut around the core by pushing the knife straight down to the bottom of the apple and pull up. Move the knife and make the next cut. Repeat until you have cut around the apple core. Push the core from the apple. (Or remove the cores with an apple corer.) Peel the apples with a paring knife.
- Place 1 apple on the center of each square of dough. In a small bowl, mix the raisins and nuts. Fill the center of each apple with raisin mixture. Moisten the corners of each square with small amount of water; bring 2 opposite corners of dough up over apple and press corners together. Fold in sides of remaining corners; bring corners up over apple and press together. Place dumplings in a 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish.
- In a 2-quart saucepan, heat the brown sugar and 1 1/3 cups water to boiling over high heat, stirring frequently. Carefully pour the sugar syrup around the dumplings.
- Bake about 40 minutes, spooning syrup over apples 2 or 3 times, until crust is browned and apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Serve warm or cooled with syrup from pan.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 400*F
- Spray a 9x13 casserole dish with oil. Set aside
- In a bowl, using a pastry blender, mix flour, salt, baking powder and butter until mixture is crumbly.
- Add milk ¼ cup at a time, mixing well with a rubber spatula to bind ingredients.
- Lightly / medium flour a work surface and place dough in the middle. Roll out dough into a 10 x 14 inch rectangle. Think cinnamon rolls.
- Grate apples and place on top of rolled out dough.
- Sprinkle apples with ½ teaspoon cinnamon and ½ cup white sugar.
- Gently roll up dough along the long end - like you would a cinnamon roll. Dough is more like a thick pie crust than a soft cinnamon roll dough. This makes it harder to roll, not to mention this bulky apple layer.
- Once dough is rolled up into a tight roll, cut like cinnamon rolls, cut in 1 ¼ inch slices, like cinnamon rolls.
- Place apple dumplings into a prepared casserole dish, filling the dish entirely. Don't overpack, allowing room for rolls to gently expand during cooking.
- In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups water, 2 cups brown sugar, ¼ cup butter and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon to a simmer.
- Pour over apple dumplings.
- Bake for 35 minutes.
- Remove and serve immediately by itself or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 350. Have apples peeled & cored. In food processor add flour, baking powder, salt. Pulse a few times then add the butter and milk, pulse until incorporating and soft dough forms. Cut dough into 6 even pieces. Roll each piece into a circular shape on lightly floured surface. Mix sugar and cinnamon, just eyeball it..I didn't measure. Forgot pic of dough!
- 2. Place a peeled and cored apple in the center of the dough. Sprinkle about a tablespoon of cinnamon sugar in the hole. Using hands mold the dough around the apple, bringing sides of dough towards the top of apple, making sure entire apple is covered. The dough is so easy to work with. Place Apples in a greased 9 x 13 pan.
- 3. Make sauce...in medium sauce pan, place water, sugar, butter and cinnamon. Whisk to combine and heat until lightly boiling. Remove from stove and cool slightly.
- 4. Pour sauce around the dumplings and just a little over dumplings. Halfway through baking time baste the apples with the sauce. Bake for 50 - 55 minutes or until apple is tender. I slide a slender knife inside to test.
- 5. Serve with Ice cream, whipped cream or milk. That yummy sauce is out of this world good! Enjoy!

Tips:
- Choose the right apples: Firm, tart apples hold their shape best during baking. Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn are all good choices.
- Peel and core the apples evenly: This will help them cook evenly. A melon baller can be used to easily remove the core.
- Make sure the dumplings are completely sealed: This will prevent the filling from leaking out during baking.
- Use a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven: This will help to evenly distribute the heat and prevent the dumplings from burning.
- Cook the dumplings until they are golden brown and the filling is bubbling: This will ensure that they are cooked through.
Conclusion:
Apple dumplings are a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and comforting dish that is perfect for any occasion. So next time you are looking for a dessert to make, give these apple dumplings a try. You won't be disappointed!
