Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 boneless pork shoulder butt roast (3 pounds)
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 cup finely chopped onion
1 cup teriyaki sauce, divided
1/2 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
8 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
1 (20 ounce) can sliced pineapple, drained

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, brown roast in oil over medium-high heat. Cut in half; place in a 5-qt. slow cooker. Add the onion, 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce and pineapple juice. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or until meat is tender.
  • Remove roast; set aside. In a small bowl, combine the flour and remaining teriyaki sauce until smooth; stir into cooking juices. Cover and cook on high for 30-40 minutes or until thickened.
  • Shred meat with two forks; return to the slow cooker and heat through. Spoon 1/2 cup onto each bun; top with a slice of pineapple.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of pork. Pork shoulder or pork butt is ideal for pulled pork because it is a tough cut of meat that becomes tender when cooked slowly.
  • Use a flavorful marinade. The marinade will help to tenderize the pork and infuse it with flavor. Be sure to use a marinade that contains an acidic ingredient, such as vinegar or citrus juice, to help break down the connective tissue in the pork.
  • Cook the pork slowly and low. The ideal temperature for cooking pulled pork is between 225 and 250 degrees Fahrenheit. This will allow the pork to cook evenly and develop a tender texture.
  • Shred the pork with forks. Once the pork is cooked, shred it with two forks. This will help to create a tender and flavorful pulled pork.
  • Serve the pulled pork on buns or rolls. Pulled pork sandwiches are a classic, but you can also serve pulled pork on tacos, nachos, or baked potatoes.

Conclusion:

Teriyaki pulled pork sandwiches are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a casual get-together or a backyard barbecue. The pork is tender and flavorful, and the teriyaki sauce adds a sweet and savory flavor that is sure to please everyone. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give teriyaki pulled pork sandwiches a try.
