Teriyaki Pulled Pork in the Slow Cooker image

Asian pulled pork is so much better made with homemade teriyaki sauce rather than the bottled stuff. It's perfect on sandwiches, over rice, in a wrap, quesadillas, burritos, tacos, etc. Also ideal for tailgating or game day snacks.

Number Of Ingredients 14

¾ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
¼ cup chicken broth
¼ cup pineapple juice
3 tablespoons brown sugar
3 tablespoons dry sherry

¼ cup cold water
3 teaspoons cornstarch
2 ½ pounds pork shoulder roast

  • Place pork roast in a slow cooker and pour teriyaki sauce over the top. Cook on Low until the pork is tender and falls apart when pulled with a fork, 6 to 8 hours.
  • Remove the pork from the cooker and let rest for 5 minutes before shredding with 2 forks.
  • Return the shredded meat to the pot, mix with the sauce, and let it warm up for about 5 minutes. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of pork: Pork shoulder is the best cut for pulled pork, as it is marbled with fat and connective tissue that break down during cooking, resulting in tender and flavorful meat.
  • Sear the pork before cooking: Searing the pork in a hot pan before adding it to the slow cooker helps to develop flavor and color.
  • Use a flavorful marinade or rub: The marinade or rub will help to infuse the pork with flavor. Be sure to let the pork marinate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
  • Cook the pork on low heat: Cooking the pork on low heat for a long period of time allows the connective tissue to break down and the meat to become tender.
  • Shred the pork with two forks: Once the pork is cooked, shred it with two forks. This is the easiest way to get the meat into bite-sized pieces.
  • Serve the pork with your favorite sides: Pulled pork can be served with a variety of sides, such as mashed potatoes, coleslaw, or baked beans.

Conclusion:

Teriyaki pulled pork is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a party or a weeknight dinner. By following these tips, you can make sure that your pulled pork turns out perfect every time.
