Time 30m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 (5 ounce) can tuna, drained
1 egg
½ cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
⅓ cup minced onion
¼ cup minced celery
¼ cup minced red bell pepper
¼ cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons chili sauce
½ teaspoon dried dill weed
¼ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 dash hot pepper sauce
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
4 hamburger buns
1 tomato, sliced
4 leaves of lettuce

Steps:

  • Combine tuna, egg, bread crumbs, onion, celery, red bell pepper, mayonnaise, hot chili sauce, chili sauce, dill, salt, pepper, hot pepper sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well. Shape into 4 patties (mixture will be very soft and delicate). Refrigerate for 30 minutes to make the patties easier to handle, if desired.
  • Coat a non-stick skillet with cooking spray; fry tuna patties for about 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until cooked through. These are fragile, so be careful when turning them.
  • Serve on buns with tomato slices and lettuce leaves, if desired.

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 25m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 17

1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon Thai sweet chili sauce
2 teaspoons fresh ginger, grated
1/2 limes, juice of or 1 teaspoon lime juice
1 teaspoon honey
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup panko breadcrumbs (Japanese breadcrumbs-I used whole wheat )
1 teaspoon soy sauce
2 teaspoons Thai sweet chili sauce
2 (5 ounce) cans tuna in water, drained
1/3 cup celery, finely chopped (I used the food processor)
1/3 cup green onion, finely chopped
1/3 cup red bell pepper, finely chopped
4 sandwich buns, thin, cut in half and toasted (or leave untoasted if you prefer)
1/3 cup baby greens
1 tablespoon olive oil (if frying)
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • If baking(you can also fry-instructions below), preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • In a small bowl, mix sauce ingredients. Place 2 tbls. of the sauce in a large bowl. Cover and chill the remaining sauce in the fridge.
  • To the same large bowl, add the eggs, panko, soy sauce, and Thai chili sauce. Break up the tuna and add to the bowl. Add celery, green onions and red bell pepper. Salt and pepper to taste. Stir and let stand about 10 minutes.
  • Using wet hands, shape the tuna mixture into 4 patties, about 3/4" thick.
  • If you want to fry them, put the oil in a skillet and heat on medium high heat. Turn down the heat to medium and add burgers and saute about 4-5 minutes each side, turning gently.
  • If you bake them, place on baking sheet. Bake at 450*F. for 10-12 minutes.
  • To serve, spread sandwich buns with remaining mayo/ginger sauce. Add patties to the bottom half of bun. Top with baby greens, and top buns.
  • Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use fresh tuna for the best flavor and texture. Frozen tuna can also be used, but it should be thawed completely before cooking.
  • If you are using canned tuna, be sure to drain it well and flake it before adding it to the burger mixture.
  • For a more flavorful burger, use a variety of seasonings, such as onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and cumin.
  • If you want a crispy burger, pan-fry it over medium heat until golden brown on both sides. For a healthier option, bake it in a preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes.
  • Serve tuna burgers on a bun with your favorite toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, onion, and cheese.

Conclusion:

Tuna burgers are a delicious and versatile meal that can be enjoyed for lunch or dinner. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a flavorful and satisfying burger that is sure to please everyone at the table.
