This recipe is one that has been passed down two generations. They taste like no other ribs I have ever tried. They are sweet and tangy just like the name says. They seem to come straight from the Orient. Lots of raves on this one. Very yummy.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ribs: Select high-quality pork spare ribs with good marbling for a tender and flavorful result.
  • Properly trim the ribs: Remove the tough membrane from the back of the ribs to ensure they cook evenly and become fall-off-the-bone tender.
  • Marinate the ribs: Marinating the ribs in a flavorful mixture of spices, herbs, and liquids helps infuse them with delicious flavors and tenderize the meat.
  • Use a combination of cooking methods: Searing or grilling the ribs over high heat gives them a nice caramelized crust, while braising or baking them at a lower temperature helps tenderize and cook the meat thoroughly.
  • Control the cooking temperature: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the ribs reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) for medium-rare or 160°F (71°C) for medium.
  • Glaze the ribs: Apply a glaze made from a combination of sweet, savory, and tangy ingredients during the last 15-20 minutes of cooking to add extra flavor and shine.
  • Let the ribs rest: After cooking, allow the ribs to rest for a few minutes before serving to let the juices redistribute and enhance the flavor.
