1 medium red cabbage, shredded or chopped roughly
6 cloves, whole
1 1/2 c water
4 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 medium apples, sweet, peeled and cored, sliced or chopped
salt and pepper to taste

Tips:

  • Select firm, unblemished red cabbage: Look for cabbages that are heavy for their size, with tightly packed leaves.
  • Use a sharp knife or mandoline to thinly slice the cabbage: This will help the cabbage cook evenly and absorb the flavors of the dressing.
  • Massage the cabbage with salt: This helps to draw out the cabbage's natural juices and makes it more tender.
  • Use a combination of vinegar, sugar, and spices for the dressing: This creates a tangy, sweet, and flavorful dressing that complements the cabbage.
  • Let the cabbage marinate for at least 30 minutes before serving: This allows the flavors of the dressing to penetrate the cabbage.
