ORANGE STUFF

Orange Stuff image

This reminds me of orange sherbet! It is from my favorite cookbook- The Roosevelt Raccoons "All of Our Favorites" cookbook. The cookbook contains recipes from active parents and teachers of Roosevelt Elementary School, Mankato, MN. It is where I went to school, and my family submitted all of our family favorites for it. So, we probably have 10 copies of the book in our house! I changed the name to "Orange Stuff," after our family favorite "Green Stuff." Before, this was simply called "Salads."

3 cans mandarin oranges, drained and cut up

CRUMB BASE:
60 Ritz crackers, crushed
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
Blend ingredients together. Divide mixture using about 2/3 for bottom crust in a 9x13 inch pan. Sprinkle remaining over filling.

Tips:

  • Choosing the Right Oranges: Select ripe, juicy oranges with a deep orange color and a firm feel. Avoid oranges with blemishes or soft spots.
  • Zesting the Oranges: Use a Microplane zester or a fine grater to zest the oranges. Be sure to zest only the outermost layer of the peel, as the white pith underneath is bitter.
  • Cooking the Orange Mixture: Stir the orange mixture constantly while cooking to prevent scorching. The mixture should thicken and become slightly syrupy.
  • Chilling the Orange Mixture: Allow the orange mixture to cool completely before chilling. This will help the flavors to develop and meld together.
  • Serving the Orange Stuff: Serve the orange stuff chilled, topped with whipped cream, yogurt, or ice cream. It can also be used as a filling for cakes, pies, and tarts.

Conclusion:

Tangy Orange Dessert, also known as Orange Stuff, is an easy-to-make dessert with bright, citrusy flavors. It's a versatile dish that can be served as a simple dessert, a topping, or a filling. With its vibrant orange color and sweet-tangy taste, Orange Stuff is a refreshing and delicious treat that is sure to please everyone.
