TANDOORI CHICKEN BURGERS

Tandoori Chicken Burgers image

I came across this on the Foodnetwork.ca (.ca is the Canadian version, while fooodnetwork.com is the American version). It does call for yogurt or creamy dressing, but as some one who keeps Kosher I would most likely use soya or pareve yogurt or dressing (meaning it's not made with milk or other dairy products).

Time 25m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 lb ground chicken
1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons prepared tandoori paste
1 large egg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1 dash hot sauce (optional)
whole grain hamburger bun
sliced cucumbers and peaches or mango
yogurt

Steps:

  • Toss the chicken with the breadcrumbs, Tandoori paste, egg, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt & pepper and cumin (and hot sauce, if using). Shape the burgers into 6 patties and chill until ready to grill.
  • Preheat the grill to medium. Grill the burgers for 10 to 12 minutes on each side, or until cooked all the way through, and rotating the burgers 90 degrees halfway through cooking on each side.
  • Serve the burgers on buns and top with sliced cucumbers and peaches (or mango, and serve with the yogurt or creamy dressing.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use fresh, skinless, boneless chicken breasts. If you're using frozen chicken breasts, thaw them completely before cooking.
  • To make the tandoori marinade, use a high-quality yogurt. Greek yogurt is a great option, as it's thick and creamy. You can also use plain yogurt, but be sure to strain it through a cheesecloth-lined colander to remove any excess whey.
  • When preparing the chicken burgers, be sure to mix the chicken with the marinade thoroughly. This will help to ensure that the chicken is evenly flavored.
  • If you don't have a tandoor oven, you can cook the chicken burgers in a preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through.
  • Serve the chicken burgers with your favorite toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, onion, and raita.

Conclusion:

Tandoori-style chicken burgers are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a summer cookout or a busy weeknight dinner. With their juicy, flavorful chicken and their slightly smoky flavor, these burgers are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them. So next time you're looking for something new and exciting to cook, give these tandoori-style chicken burgers a try. You won't be disappointed!
