MY BELOVED Swiss mother-in-law gave me this recipe years ago. It's quick and easy to prepare and, as she was so frugal, easy on the pocketbook! I've served this delicious dessert to groups, but it's best served individually. -Laura Mae Peterson Salem, Oregon

Tips:

  • Use fresh cherries: Fresh cherries are sweeter and have a better flavor than frozen or canned cherries. If you can't find fresh cherries, you can use frozen cherries that have been thawed and drained.
  • Pit the cherries: Pitting the cherries is a bit of a pain, but it's worth it. Pitted cherries are easier to eat and they make the dessert look more elegant.
  • Use a good quality Kirschwasser: Kirschwasser is a cherry brandy that adds a delicious flavor to the dessert. Make sure to use a good quality Kirschwasser, as a cheap one can ruin the flavor of the dessert.
  • Don't overcook the cherries: The cherries should be cooked until they are just tender. If you overcook them, they will become mushy.
  • Serve the dessert warm or cold: This dessert can be served warm or cold. If you serve it warm, the cherries will be softer and the Kirschwasser will be more pronounced. If you serve it cold, the cherries will be firmer and the Kirschwasser will be less noticeable.

Conclusion:

Swiss cherry dessert is a delicious and elegant dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be served warm or cold. With its sweet and tart cherries, rich Kirschwasser flavor, and creamy custard filling, this dessert is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
