Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 c baking mix
1 lb bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 pkg (8 oz.) natural swiss cheese slices
1/2 c cold water
4 eggs
1/2 c milk
1/2 tsp onion powder

Steps:

  • 1. Mix the baking mix and water until soft dough forms. Beat vigorously 20 strokes. Gently smooth into ball on floured surface and knead 10 times. Pat into 13x9" baking dish with floured hands, 1/2" up the sides of dish.
  • 2. Top dough with cheese slices, overlapping edges. Sprinkle with bacon. Mix remaining ingredients and pour over bacon.
  • 3. Bake in a 425-degree oven until knife inserted near center comes out clean, about 25 minutes. Cool slightly and cut into squares.

Tips:

  • For a crispier crust, pre-bake the pie crust for 5-10 minutes before adding the filling.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut the bacon into small pieces. This will help it cook evenly.
  • Don't crowd the bacon in the pan. This will prevent it from cooking evenly.
  • Cook the bacon over medium heat. This will help it render the fat without burning.
  • Drain the bacon on paper towels before adding it to the filling. This will help remove excess grease.
  • Use a good quality Swiss cheese. This will give the filling a rich, flavorful taste.
  • Season the filling to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Don't overfill the pie crust. This will make it difficult to seal the edges.
  • Bake the quiche until the crust is golden brown and the filling is set. This will take about 30-35 minutes.
  • Let the quiche cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving. This will help it set and make it easier to cut.

Conclusion:

Swiss Bacon Squares are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that is perfect for any party or gathering. With a flaky crust, creamy filling, and crispy bacon, these squares are sure to be a hit with everyone. So next time you're looking for a tasty and satisfying snack, give Swiss Bacon Squares a try!
