Steps:
- 1. In a large bowl, empty the cereal and the peanuts.
- 2. In a saucepan on the stove melt the butter, sugar, syrup and salt. Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes stirring constantly. Add the baking soda, stir, ingredients will foam and become frothy.
- 3. Pour mixture over the cereal and peanuts. Mix quickly but carefully. You don't want to smash all of the cereal.
- 4. Spread onto a cookie sheet lined with non-stick foil or sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
- 5. Bake at 200 degrees for one hour, turning mix over every 15 minutes. Note: The original recipe calls for baking 1 hour, I cut it down to 30 minutes the second time because we like it to still have the sweet chewy texture.
- 6. When mix has cooled, add the M&M's.
- 7. Note: Very versatile recipe! You can use dark or milk chocolate M&M's, or even try the Pretzel M&M's. I've also tossed a cup or so of pretzels into this as well.

Tips:
- Choose the right ingredients: Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best results. Don't use stale or expired ingredients, as they will affect the taste of your snack mix. Choose nuts and seeds that are unsalted and unroasted, so you can control the flavor and saltiness of your mix.
- Measure your ingredients accurately: This is important to ensure that your snack mix has the right balance of flavors and textures. Use a kitchen scale to measure your ingredients, especially if you are making a large batch of snack mix.
- Roast your nuts and seeds: Roasting nuts and seeds brings out their flavor and makes them more crunchy. You can roast them in the oven or on the stovetop. Be sure to watch them closely so that they don't burn.
- Add your favorite seasonings: You can add a variety of seasonings to your snack mix, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, or chili powder. Be sure to taste your snack mix as you go and adjust the seasonings to your liking.
- Use a variety of textures: A good snack mix has a variety of textures, from crunchy nuts and seeds to chewy dried fruit and soft marshmallows. Be sure to include a mix of different shapes and sizes of ingredients as well.
- Store your snack mix properly: Store your snack mix in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. This will help to keep it fresh and prevent it from going stale.
