SPICY SHRIMP TACOS

Spicy Shrimp Tacos image

Add a touch of heat to your feast with a fast and fresh recipe for Asian-inspired shrimp tacos.

Provided by Kelly Senyei

Categories     main-dish

Time 40m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 1/2 pounds medium shrimp, shelled, deveined and tails removed
1 tablespoon Chinese five-spice powder
1 medium orange, zested and juiced
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Kosher salt
1/2 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
Tortillas, for serving
Thinly sliced radishes, for serving
Diced avocado, for serving

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, toss together the shrimp with the Chinese five-spice powder until evenly coated. Add the orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, vegetable oil, garlic, red pepper flakes, and 1 teaspoon salt and toss to combine. Cover and refrigerate the shrimp for a minimum of 30 minutes and up to 2 hours, if time allows.
  • Heat a large saute pan over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in batches and cook them in a single layer until they are cooked through, about 1 minute on each side. Transfer the shrimp to a serving plate.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream and lime juice with 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  • Drizzle the shrimp with the sauce and serve with tortillas, sliced radishes and diced avocado.

Tips:

  • To save time, use pre-cooked shrimp or cook the shrimp ahead of time.
  • If you don't have a grill, you can cook the shrimp in a skillet over medium heat until pink and cooked through.
  • Be sure to use a good quality taco seasoning. You can make your own or use a store-bought brand.
  • Don't overcrowd the grill or skillet when cooking the shrimp. This will prevent them from cooking evenly.
  • To get the most flavor out of the shrimp, marinate them in the taco seasoning for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
  • Serve the shrimp tacos with your favorite toppings, such as shredded cabbage, diced tomatoes, sour cream, and guacamole.

Conclusion:

Sweet and Spicy Shrimp Tacos are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual get-together. The shrimp are marinated in a flavorful taco seasoning and then grilled or cooked in a skillet until tender and juicy. The sweet and spicy sauce adds a delicious kick to the tacos, and the fresh toppings make them even more irresistible.
