SWEET AND SPICY GREEN BEANS

Sweet and Spicy Green Beans image

I found this on "allrecipes.com" and it's delicious and easy. I did not steam the green beans first, just put them in the oil and stir-fried for about 5 minutes or so, then added the liquid ingredients. I like my beans a little crisper. I also used Texas Pete sauce instead of chili sauce. Any hot sauce will do.

SWEET AND SPICY GREEN BEANS

Categories     Vegetable

Yield 4 humans

Number Of Ingredients 5

3/4 pound fresh green beans, trimmed 2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon garlic chili sauce
1 teaspoon honey
2 teaspoons canola oil

Steps:

  • Arrange a steamer basket in a pot over boiling water, and steam the green beans 3 to 4 minutes. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, garlic, garlic chili sauce, and honey. Heat the canola oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the green beans, and fry for 3 to 5 minutes. Pour in the soy sauce mixture. Continue cooking and stirring 2 minutes, or until the liquid is nearly evaporated. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, tender green beans: Look for beans that are bright green and snap easily when you bend them.
  • Trim the green beans: Cut off the ends of the beans, where the stems attach.
  • Blanch the green beans: This step helps to preserve the beans' color and crispness. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the green beans, and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remove the beans from the boiling water and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Make the sweet and spicy sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, Sriracha sauce, garlic, and ginger.
  • Stir-fry the green beans: Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the oil and swirl to coat the pan. Add the green beans and cook, stirring constantly, until they are tender and slightly browned, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the sweet and spicy sauce: Pour the sauce over the green beans and cook, stirring constantly, until the beans are evenly coated, about 1 minute.
  • Garnish and serve: Sprinkle the green beans with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve immediately.

Conclusion:

This sweet and spicy green bean recipe is a quick and easy way to prepare a delicious and healthy side dish. The beans are blanched to preserve their color and crispness, then stir-fried in a flavorful sauce made with soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, Sriracha sauce, garlic, and ginger. The resulting dish is a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors. Serve these green beans as a side dish with grilled chicken, fish, or tofu, or as a vegetarian main course. Enjoy!
