1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
3 tablespoons molasses
1 large egg
2 tablespoons water or milk
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

Steps:

  • In the large bowl of an electric mixer, beat butter, sugar and molasses until mixture is light and smooth. Add egg and water or milk, blending well.
