SCRUMPTIOUS SWEDISH APPLE PIE

Scrumptious Swedish Apple Pie image

This doesn't have the typical pie crusts that Americans are used to. Instead, it is more like a coffee cake or cobbler. The batter is mixed with the apples and the whole mixture is baked in a pie plate. Much easier than a traditional crusted pie, and a nice change of pace with a delicious topping.

SWEDISH APPLE PIE

Time 55m

Yield 1 Pie, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 -5 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
1 1/4 cups sugar (divided)
3 teaspoons cinnamon
3/4 cup butter or 3/4 cup margarine

  • Preheat oven to 350.

  • In saucepan, melt butter and remove from heat.
  • Add remaining ingredients (including the 1 cup of sugar remaining).
  • Pour evenly over the apples in pan.
  • Bake 45 minutes.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor. A mix of tart and sweet apples works well.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly so that they cook evenly.
  • Add a little bit of lemon juice to the apples to prevent them from browning.
  • Use a large skillet or Dutch oven so that the apples have plenty of room to cook.
  • Cook the apples over medium heat, stirring frequently, until they are tender but still hold their shape.
  • Add the sugar and spices to the apples and cook for a few minutes more, until the sugar has dissolved and the spices are fragrant.
  • Serve the apple filling warm or at room temperature, with whipped cream, ice cream, or custard.

This Swedish apple pie filling is a delicious and versatile dessert that can be enjoyed in many different ways. It is perfect for pies, tarts, and crumbles, or it can be served on its own with whipped cream or ice cream.
