Time 2h35m

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 c bread flour
2 tsp dry active yeast
1 tsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/4 c warm water
2 Tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil

Steps:

  • 1. In a large mixing bowl combine water, yeast and sugar give it a mix with a spoon and let sit until it foams about 5 minutes. Add flour, salt and oil mix until a dough ball forms. Transfer ball of dough onto flour board and knead until smooth about 10 minutes. Oil a mixing bowl and transfer dough into the mixing ball turning the ball to coat it in oil cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 45 minutes until doubled in size in a warm place.
  • 2. After 45 minutes take dough out and put on floured board and punch down and knead for 2 minutes or so. At this point you can divide the dough into 4 balls or 8. I do 4 balls and make 2 loaves out of 2 balls and four rolls out of the other 2. All you do to make the loafs or baguettes is roll the dough into logs. Oil a baking sheet or cover with parchment paper and put formed loaves into the sheets. oil the tops with olive or vegetable oil and cover with plastic wrap. Put sheets in a warm place and let sit for 45 minutes until they double in size again.
  • 3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Take plastic sheet off the bread and at this point you can add fresh or dried herbs. Or you can do sesame seeds or even oatmeal or leave them plain. Place baking sheets in oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until top is golden brown. Take them out and let them cool down or eat them right away.

Tips:

  • Exact measurements: Be precise with your measurements, especially for the yeast and liquids, to ensure the dough rises properly and has the right consistency.
  • Fresh ingredients: Use fresh, active yeast for the best results. Old or inactive yeast may not activate properly and can affect the rise of the dough.
  • Proper mixing: Mix the dough until it forms a smooth and elastic ball that pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Undermixing can result in a dense and crumbly bread, while overmixing can make the bread tough.
  • Adequate rising time: Allow the dough to rise in a warm place until it doubles in size. This ensures proper fermentation and gives the bread a light and airy texture.
  • Proper baking temperature: Bake the bread at the correct temperature to achieve the desired crust and internal doneness. Use an oven thermometer to ensure the oven is at the right temperature before baking.

Conclusion:

With careful preparation, attention to detail, and patience, you can easily create delicious and versatile sub bread at home. Experiment with different toppings and fillings to suit your taste preferences. Whether you're making a hearty sandwich, serving it as a side with soup or salad, or enjoying it as a snack, this sub bread is sure to be a hit.
