A refreshing drink from Gooseberry Patch. The lemonade adds a nice, clean taste to this iced tea. For a really cool and original way to serve this drink to guests, check out step 3. Enjoy!

Categories     Beverages

Time 10m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 cups boiling water
2 family-size tea bags or 8 regular tea bags
6 leaves of fresh mint
6 ounces frozen lemonade concentrate
1 cup sugar
5 cups cold water
ice cube, fresh mint sprigs

Steps:

  • Pour boiling water into a large heatproof pitcher. Add teabags and mint leaves; let stand for 5 minutes. Discard teabags and mint leaves.
  • Add frozen lemonade, sugar and cold water, mixing well. Serve over ice; garnish with mint sprigs.
  • A really neat way that Gooseberry showed this drink is to put each serving in mason jars, sealer lids and all, with a slice of lemon in each jar. Put all the jars in a bucket of ice and serve to your guests that way. Very impressive for a barbeque or gathering and a very inexpensive way to do it as well.

SUMMERTIME ICED TEA

Summertime Iced Tea image

I happen to come across this iced tea recipe at food.com which Nif originally posted the recipe, but I did tweak the recipe to suit my taste. When making the tea, I used fresh spearmint leaves from my garden, plus I added more. I also added more tea bags, and used a 12 ounce can of lemonade concentrate, to almost fill a gallon...

Provided by Cindi M Bauer

Categories     Other Drinks

Number Of Ingredients 9

8 cups water
14 tea bags (orange pekoe and black)
25 fresh spearmint leaves
1 cup sugar
1 (12 oz.) can frozen lemonade concentrate
4 cups cold water
lemon slices, to garnish
sprigs of fresh spearmint, to garnish
1 gallon size heat-proof glass jar

Steps:

  • 1. Place the spearmint leaves and tea bags in a heat-proof gallon size jar.
  • 2. In a large saucepan, bring the 8 cups of water to almost a boil, just until you see a few bubbles starting to come to the surface.
  • 3. Pour the heated water into the large heat-proof jar; cover the jar with a glass plate. I used an 8-1/2 inch glass dessert plate, and let stand for 15-20 minutes.
  • 4. After the tea has steeped, discard the teabags and mint leaves. Add the sugar, and stir thoroughly.
  • 5. Cover the jar with the plate, and let set at room temp to cool. (I let mine sit for 1 hr. & 30 mins.)
  • 6. Now add the frozen lemonade and cold water; stir well.
  • 7. Refrigerate to chill and serve later, or pour into beverage glasses filled with a few large ice cubes, and serve immediately.
  • 8. Garnish beverage glasses with lemon slices, and sprigs of fresh spearmint leaves, if desired.
  • 9. Note: I just wanted to let everyone know... The other day I made this iced tea, but found I only had 12 mint leaves, so I also used 2 Bigelow Plantation Black Spearmint Tea Bags (along with 12 black flavored tea bags). I felt the taste of the spearmint really came through, and the tea was quite refreshing and delicious!

Tips:

  • Use quality ingredients: The quality of your ingredients will greatly affect the taste of your iced tea. Use fresh, loose-leaf tea whenever possible, and avoid using tea bags that contain artificial flavors or colors.
  • Let the tea steep for the proper amount of time: The steeping time will vary depending on the type of tea you are using, but a general rule of thumb is to steep black tea for 3-5 minutes and green tea for 2-3 minutes.
  • Use cold water to brew the tea: Using cold water will help to prevent the tea from becoming bitter. If you are using hot water, let it cool to room temperature before adding it to the tea leaves.
  • Add desired sweetener to taste: Once the tea has steeped, you can sweeten it to taste with sugar, honey, or your favorite sweetener. You can also add a splash of lemon juice or milk for extra flavor.
  • Serve the iced tea over ice: Once the tea has cooled, serve it over ice in a tall glass. You can garnish the tea with a slice of lemon or lime, or a sprig of mint.

Conclusion:

Summertime iced tea is a refreshing and delicious way to stay hydrated during the hot summer months. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make a delicious iced tea that the whole family will enjoy. Experiment with different types of tea and flavors to find your favorite recipe. You can also get creative with your garnishes to make your iced tea even more special.
