This is one of my family's favorite things that I make. Sage,Thyme, Onions,Tomatoes and Swiss cheese make this a very savory and tasty appetizer. It's very simple and can be tweaked with other additions if you like. I try to buy a few baguettes at a time so I can slice them all up and place them in zip lock baggies and freeze. Then whenever I have tomatoes onions and cheese on hand, I can take out the bread, defrost, and put this quick appetizer together in a matter of minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, flavorful tomatoes: The quality of your tomatoes will make a big difference in the taste of your bruschetta. Look for tomatoes that are plump, juicy, and have a deep red color.
  • Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs add a lot of flavor to bruschetta. If you can, use freshly chopped basil, oregano, and thyme. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, you can use dried herbs, but they won't be as flavorful.
  • Don't overcook the garlic: Garlic can easily burn, so be careful not to overcook it. Just a few minutes in the pan is all it takes to bring out the flavor of the garlic.
  • Use a good quality olive oil: Olive oil is a key ingredient in bruschetta, so make sure you use a good quality oil that has a fruity flavor. Extra virgin olive oil is the best choice.
  • Toast the bread before serving: Toasting the bread will help it to hold up better under the toppings. You can toast the bread in a toaster oven or on a grill pan.

Conclusion:

Bruschetta is a simple but delicious Italian appetizer that is perfect for summer gatherings. It's easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With just a few fresh ingredients, you can create a flavorful and satisfying dish that will be enjoyed by everyone.
