SUGAR AND SPICE BACON (OR TURKEY BACON)

Sugar and Spice Bacon (Or Turkey Bacon) image

This is how I fix bacon for scrambles, breakfast sandwiches, and just for munching. It is sweet, smokey, salty and just a tad spicy. I especially love it on Turkey Bacon because it makes boring old Turkey Bacon new again!

Time 25m

Yield 3 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

6 slices bacon or 6 slices turkey bacon
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon sugar or 1 tablespoon Splenda sugar substitute
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (fresh grated is best)
1/8 teaspoon allspice
1/8 teaspoon clove
1/8 teaspoon garlic salt
1 pinch cayenne

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350*.
  • Place bacon slices on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
  • Mix together remaining ingredients. If you are using regular bacon, you may want to add garlic powder instead of garlic salt. I always use the lower sodium bacon and Turkey bacon, so I feel like I can add the garlic salt :).
  • Remove from oven, flip bacon and sprinkle this side generously with sugar mixture. Return to oven for 5-7 minutes, until bacon is looking fairly crisp, but not completely done.
  • Remove from oven and flip bacon again. Sprinkle this side with sugar mixture and return to oven until bacon reaches your desired doneness. (I usually allow about 5 more minutes.
  • Remove bacon to paper towel lined plate to use in other recipes or start digging in, being careful not to burn your little fingers on the melty sugar!

Tips:

  • Choose the right bacon. Thick-cut bacon is best for this recipe, as it will hold up better to the cooking process and will be less likely to overcook.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed skillet. This will help to prevent the bacon from sticking and will also help to evenly distribute the heat.
  • Preheat the skillet over medium-high heat before adding the bacon. This will help to sear the bacon and prevent it from sticking.
  • Cook the bacon in batches if necessary. If you are cooking a large amount of bacon, it is best to cook it in batches to prevent the skillet from becoming overcrowded.
  • Do not overcrowd the skillet. This will prevent the bacon from cooking evenly and will also make it more likely to stick.
  • Flip the bacon halfway through cooking. This will help to ensure that the bacon is cooked evenly on both sides.
  • Drain the bacon on paper towels before serving. This will help to remove any excess grease.
  • Enjoy your bacon! This bacon is delicious on its own, but it can also be used in a variety of recipes, such as sandwiches, salads, and pasta dishes.

Conclusion:

Sugar and spice bacon is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like your bacon sweet, spicy, or somewhere in between, this recipe is sure to please. So next time you are looking for a new way to cook bacon, give this recipe a try.
