Time 35m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 medium onion
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
2 cans vegetarian baked beans
1/4 cup molasses

Steps:

  • Chop the onion. In a saucepan heat the oil and then cook the onion until softened. Add the beans and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the molasses and simmer for 10 to 15 more minutes.

Tips:

  • For the best results, use dried beans that have been soaked overnight. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • If you're short on time, you can use canned beans instead of dried beans. Just be sure to rinse them well before using.
  • Feel free to experiment with different types of beans. Black beans, kidney beans, and pinto beans are all good choices.
  • Add some chopped vegetables to your baked beans for extra flavor. Onions, celery, and carrots are all good options.
  • Season your baked beans to taste. Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder are all good choices.
  • Baked beans can be served as a main course or a side dish. They're also great for potlucks and picnics.
