Provided by Lynnda Cloutier

Categories     Fruit Desserts

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup milk
1 cup heavy cram
1 ts. vanilla extract
4 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup grand marnier
1 quart strawberries

Steps:

  • 1. Heat milk, cream and vanilla in double boiler over simmering water until hot but not boiling.
  • 2. Whisk egg yolks and sugar in a bowl. Stir a small amount of the hot milk mixture into egg yolks; stir the egg yolks into the hot milk mixture gradually. Cook for 10 minutes or until sauce coats back of spoon. Do not allow to boil or the sauce will curdle. Remove from heat and then stir in liqueur.
  • 3. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools. Cut strawberries into halves or slices. Spoon strawberries evenly into four wine goblets, martini glasses or dessert bowls. Drizzle sauce over strawberries. The sauce may be served warm or chilled. Serves 4

Tips

  • Selecting ripe, flavorful strawberries is key. Look for berries that are bright red and have no signs of bruising or mold.
  • Use fresh Grand Marnier liqueur for the best flavor.
  • If you don't have orange zest, you can substitute lemon zest.
  • To make a non-alcoholic version of this recipe, omit the Grand Marnier and replace it with orange juice or water.
  • Serve the macerated strawberries immediately, or chill them for later use.
  • Garnish the strawberries with fresh mint or basil for a refreshing touch.
