Tips:

  • Choose the right ingredients: Use fresh, ripe strawberries and rhubarb for the best flavor. If using frozen fruit, thaw it completely before using.
  • Don't overcook the fruit: Stewed fruit should be tender but still hold its shape. Cook it over medium heat and stir frequently to prevent sticking.
  • Add sugar to taste: The amount of sugar you add will depend on the sweetness of your fruit. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
  • Use a variety of spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are all classic spices that pair well with stewed fruit. You can also experiment with other spices, such as cardamom, cloves, or allspice.
  • Serve stewed fruit warm or cold: Stewed fruit can be served warm as a dessert or side dish, or it can be chilled and served as a refreshing snack or breakfast item.
