This is a super easy, easy-on-the-budget meal. My mother made this for years, and it was always a family favorite. Great if you are pressed for time, and it tastes even better if you make it the day before and refrigerate it overnight. Serve with rice or egg noodles.

Time 1h40m

Yield 4-6 cups, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 lbs chuck steaks, 1 inch thick, cut into serving pieces
1 (1 ounce) envelope onion soup mix (we use Lipton)
1 (28 ounce) can peeled Italian tomatoes
1 teaspoon oregano
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
pepper
garlic powder

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, arrange meat; cover with onion soup mix and tomatoes (cut tomatoes into pieces).
  • Sprinkle with oregano, garlic powder, pepper, oil and vinegar.
  • Bring to a simmer; cover and cook 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Cut of Steak: For Steak San Marco, select a tender cut of beef like sirloin, strip loin, or tenderloin.
  • Tenderize the Steak: To enhance tenderness, use a meat mallet or tenderizing tool to break down the muscle fibers.
  • Season Generously: Before cooking, season the steak liberally with salt, pepper, and your preferred herbs and spices.
  • Sear for a Perfect Crust: Sear the steak in a hot pan or on a grill to create a flavorful crust that locks in the juices.
  • Cook to Your Desired Doneness: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the steak reaches your desired internal temperature for perfect doneness.
  • Let it Rest: After cooking, let the steak rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more tender and flavorful steak.
  • Pair with a Rich Sauce: Serve Steak San Marco with a flavorful sauce, such as a creamy mushroom sauce, béarnaise sauce, or red wine sauce, to enhance its taste.

Conclusion:

Steak San Marco is a delectable dish that combines the richness of steak with the lusciousness of Prosciutto, Parmesan cheese, and a savory sauce. By following these tips and using high-quality ingredients, you can create a restaurant-quality Steak San Marco at home. Serve it as a main course for a special occasion or a romantic dinner, accompanied by your favorite sides and a glass of fine wine.
