WHISKEY-MARINATED FLANK STEAK

Whiskey-Marinated Flank Steak image

This recipe combines elements that I love of my normal marinade "recipe" and an uncle's Whiskey Steak recipe. The longer you marinate the meat, the better it will be- from a few hours to overnight. The flavor is a little sweet, tangy, salty, and garlicky. The nutrition info is not accurate, since it's including all the marinade ingredients in it, so don't be afraid. :-) Prep time includes time to marinate.

Tips:

  • Choose quality ingredients: Begin with high-quality cuts of steak, like ribeyes or strips. Opt for well-aged beef, preferably dry-aged, to enhance its flavor profile.
  • Don't over-marinate: The key to successful marinating lies in balance. Marinating the steak for too long can counteract its natural flavors and make it tough. Generally, marinating for 4-12 hours is optimal.
  • Herbs and spices: When selecting herbs and spices for your marinade, consider the complementary flavors that will elevate the steak's taste. Rosemary, thyme, garlic, paprika, and chili powder offer excellent depth and complexity.
  • Oil and acidity: To create a well-balanced marinade, include a good quality oil, such as olive oil or avocado oil, and an acidic component like citrus juice (lemon, lime, or orange), vinegar, or even yogurt to tenderize the meat.
  • Storage and safety: Always marinate the steak in the refrigerator to prevent bacterial growth. Discard the marinade after use, as it may contain harmful bacteria that could contaminate the cooked steak.

Conclusion:

Mastering the art of marinating steak with Scotch whiskey unlocks a world of flavorful possibilities. Experiment with different cuts, marinating times, and flavor combinations to discover your perfect steak marinade. Whether you prefer a classic marinade or a more daring blend, the key is to respect the integrity of the meat and enhance its natural goodness. With patience and a touch of creativity, you can create exceptional steak dishes that will impress your family and friends, turning mealtime into a memorable occasion.
