MOM'S BEEF SHISH KABOBS

Mom's Beef Shish Kabobs image

My Mom has cooked this recipe for as long as I remember. Now that I live on my own, I can't wait to go back home over the holidays to have this excellent dish. Mom would probably be upset that I gave it away, but it is so delicious that I think everyone should have a chance to experience it. Technically shish kabobs use lamb, so these should be called beef kabobs, but this is the family recipe and what we call it.

Time 16h45m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 14

⅓ cup vegetable oil
½ cup soy sauce

16 mushroom caps
8 metal skewers, or as needed
2 green bell peppers, cut into chunks
1 red bell pepper, cut into chunks
1 large onion, cut into large squares

Add the beef, coat with the marinade, squeeze out excess air, and seal the bag. Marinate in the refrigerator 8 hours or overnight.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of steak: For shish kabobs, you'll want to use a cut of steak that is tender and flavorful. Some good options include flank steak, skirt steak, or sirloin steak.
  • Marinate the steak: Marinating the steak before cooking will help to tenderize it and add flavor. You can use a simple marinade made with olive oil, garlic, and herbs, or you can get more creative with your ingredients.
  • Cut the steak into uniform pieces: This will help to ensure that the steak cooks evenly. Cut the steak against the grain for the most tender results.
  • Assemble the shish kabobs: Alternate pieces of steak with vegetables and other ingredients on the skewers. Be sure to leave some space between the pieces so that they can cook evenly.
  • Cook the shish kabobs over medium heat: This will help to prevent the steak from becoming dry or overcooked. Cook the shish kabobs for about 10 minutes per side, or until the steak is cooked to your desired doneness.
  • Let the shish kabobs rest before serving: This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a more tender and flavorful steak.

Conclusion:

Steak and potatoes shish kabobs are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a summer barbecue or a weeknight dinner. By following these tips, you can make sure that your shish kabobs are perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. So fire up the grill and enjoy!
