This is an adaptation of a recipe from Betty Crocker. My family really loved this recipe, including my very picky son. We had ours with Italian bread for dipping.

STEAK AND POTATO SOUP

This is a peppery soup with lots of mushrooms and steak in it. My family requests this meal very often! Cheap and easy to make! Exact quantities vary depending on how much you want to make. I usually make a huge pot at a time.

Time 1h

Yield 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 (10 3/4 ounce) cans campbell's cream of potato soup
3 (10 3/4 ounce) cans Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup
3 (4 ounce) packages mushrooms
3 top sirloin steaks
4 russet potatoes, cooked and cut into bite size pieces
steak seasoning
1 pint half-and-half
4 garlic cloves, chopped
butter, to saute the mushroom
salt and pepper, lots of pepper

Steps:

  • Season the steaks and brown them each side.
  • When done, let them cool.
  • In the meantime, melt the butter.
  • Add mushrooms and garlic.
  • Let them brown up before salting to taste.
  • In a large pot, pour in the soups, potatoes, and mushrooms.
  • Cut up the steak into bite sized pieces and add to the pot.
  • Add half-and-half and let simmer a bit.
  • Add salt to taste.
  • Now, the most important ingredient--add pepper--quite a bit, like a tablespoons to start (I would add in increments and taste). You want it to be very peppery.
  • I usually serve this with garlic bread on the side.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality steak for the best flavor. Look for a steak that is well-marbled, as this will help to keep the meat tender and juicy.
  • Don't overcook the steak. Steak should be cooked to medium-rare or medium, depending on your preference. Overcooked steak will be tough and chewy.
  • Use a variety of vegetables in your soup. This will add flavor and texture. Some good options include potatoes, carrots, celery, and onion.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different seasonings. Steak and potato soup is a versatile dish that can be easily customized to your taste. Some popular seasonings include garlic, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary.
  • Serve steak and potato soup with a side of crusty bread or crackers. This will help to soak up the delicious broth.

Conclusion:

Steak and potato soup is a hearty and flavorful soup that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. So next time you are looking for a delicious and comforting soup, give steak and potato soup a try.
