Top with apple slices. Sprinkle sugar mixture on top. Cover with foil. Bake 50 to 60 minutes in a 350 degree oven until tender.
Tips:
- Choose the right type of squash: For this recipe, butternut squash or acorn squash works best. Both are sweet and have a firm texture that holds its shape when baked.
- Peel and cut the squash evenly: This will help ensure that the squash cooks evenly throughout.
- Don't overcrowd the baking dish: Leave some space between the squash and apple slices so that they can cook evenly and get slightly caramelized.
- Use a sharp knife to slice the apples: This will help prevent them from browning too quickly.
- Add some spices: A sprinkle of cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger will add warmth and flavor to the dish.
- Don't overcook the squash: The squash should be tender but still slightly firm. Overcooking will make it mushy.
Conclusion:
This squash and apple bake is a delicious and easy side dish that is perfect for fall and winter meals. The combination of sweet squash, tart apples, and warm spices is sure to please everyone at the table. Plus, it's a great way to use up any leftover squash or apples you may have on hand.
