Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of meat: Round steak is a relatively tough cut of meat, so it's important to choose a cut that is labeled "for braising" or "for stewing." These cuts will have more connective tissue, which will break down during the cooking process and make the meat more tender.
  • Tenderize the meat: You can further tenderize the meat by pounding it with a meat mallet or marinating it in a mixture of acids, such as vinegar or lemon juice.
  • Brown the meat: Browning the meat before braising it will help to develop flavor and color.
  • Use a flavorful braising liquid: The braising liquid is what will give the meat its flavor, so it's important to use a flavorful liquid. Some good options include beef broth, red wine, or tomato sauce.
  • Cook the meat low and slow: Braising is a low and slow cooking method, so it's important to be patient. The meat should be cooked until it is fall-apart tender, which can take several hours.
  • Serve the meat with your favorite sides: Round steak is a versatile dish that can be served with a variety of sides. Some popular options include mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
