Tips:

  • Prep your ingredients: Chop the onion, garlic, and jalapeno finely. Drain and rinse the black beans and kidney beans. Measuring out spices and seasonings beforehand. This will help you save time and ensure that you have everything ready when you start cooking.
  • Pick the right type of chili powder: For a smoky and flavorful chili, use ancho chili powder. If you prefer a spicier chili, use cayenne pepper or chili powder. Adjust the amount of chili powder according to your desired level of spiciness.
  • Use low-sodium vegetable broth: This will help you control the sodium content of the chili. You can also use water instead, but the broth will add more flavor.
  • Don't overcook the chili: Simmer the chili over medium-low heat for 20-30 minutes, or until the beans are heated through. Overcooking can make the beans mushy.
  • Serve with your favorite toppings: Some popular toppings for chili include shredded cheese, sour cream, avocado, and chopped cilantro. You can also add a dollop of Greek yogurt for a healthier option.
