Not sure where the recipe originated, but these spicy pumpkin scones are a perfect fit for cool autumn mornings. Best served hot, but can be served cold as well.

2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup white sugar, divided
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons butter, divided
1 large egg
½ cup pumpkin puree
¼ cup sour cream
½ teaspoon ground ginger

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Combine flour, 7 tablespoons sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Cut in 4 tablespoons butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Beat egg using a whisk in a bowl. Add pumpkin, sour cream, and ginger; beat until well blended. Stir pumpkin mixture into the flour mixture until a soft dough has formed.

2 cups biscuit/baking mix
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2/3 cup half-and-half cream
1/2 cup golden raisins
2 tablespoons chopped crystallized ginger
Additional half-and-half cream and sugar

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the biscuit mix, sugar, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. Stir in cream just until moistened. Stir in raisins and ginger. , Turn onto a floured surface; knead 10 times. Transfer dough to a greased baking sheet. Pat into a 9-in. circle. Cut into eight wedges, but do not separate. 1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
¼ cup white sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon salt
⅓ cup margarine, chilled
½ cup currants
1 egg
⅔ cup milk
2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons white sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Grease one baking sheet.
  • Combine the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, white sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg and salt in a bowl and mix well. Cut in the butter until crumbly and stir in the raisins. Make a well in the center.
