SPICY PUMPKIN PIE II

Spicy Pumpkin Pie II image

This is for all the people who don't like pumpkin pie. I don't like pumpkin pie either, but this one's different. It's so spicy!! It has become a much anticipated family custom. It's best to make your own pie shell instead of using the ready made kind because they aren't deep enough. This recipe is easily doubled.

Tips:

  • To achieve a crispy and flaky crust, use a combination of butter and shortening in the pie dough. Make sure the butter is cold and cut into small pieces before mixing it with the flour.
  • For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of granulated sugar in the pumpkin pie filling.
  • Add a teaspoon of ground cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg to the pumpkin pie filling for a classic pumpkin pie spice flavor.
  • To prevent the pie from cracking, place a baking sheet on the rack below the pie before baking.
  • Let the pie cool completely before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the crust to set.
