SPICY HOMEMADE HAMBURGER HELPER

Spicy Homemade Hamburger Helper image

I developed this recipe because I wanted something that had a spicier flavour than instant products readily available in your local grocery store but I wanted the ease with which to make it too. I think this recipe is easy to follow and versatile too. You can add any vegetable that you may have in the house and adjust the spices to suit yourself. You can change the type of pasta/sauce used too. Everytime you make it, it can be different from the last time! You can even make it using ground chicken, turkey, or even seafood (or with no meat at all!) Enjoy!

Time 35m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
1/2 Spanish onions or 1 regular onion, chopped finely
1 green pepper, chopped finely
black pepper, to taste
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder (not garlic salt!)
1 (680 ml) can of your favourite spaghetti sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
pasta
parmesan cheese (optional)

Steps:

  • Chop onions and saute with meat and green peppers until meat is browned.
  • Add spaghetti sauce and lower heat and cover and cook for about 15 min.
  • Cook pasta in a seperate saucepan.
  • Drain pasta and add to meat sauce.
  • Mix well.
  • Add grated parmesan cheese on top if desired.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality ground beef: Look for ground beef with a fat content of at least 20%. This will help the burgers stay juicy and flavorful.
  • Use fresh, flavorful spices: Don't be afraid to experiment with different spices to create a unique flavor profile for your burgers. Some good options include chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Don't overmix the meat: Overmixing the meat will make the burgers tough. Mix the meat just until it is combined.
  • Form the burgers gently: Handle the meat gently when forming the burgers. This will help prevent them from becoming tough.
  • Cook the burgers over medium heat: Cooking the burgers over medium heat will help them cook evenly and prevent them from burning.
  • Flip the burgers only once: Flipping the burgers too often will make them dry and tough. Flip them only once, when the burgers are cooked about halfway through.
  • Let the burgers rest before serving: Let the burgers rest for a few minutes before serving. This will help the juices redistribute throughout the burgers, making them more flavorful and juicy.

Conclusion:

Spicy hamburgers are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a few simple tips, you can make the perfect spicy hamburger that is sure to please everyone at your next cookout. So fire up the grill and get cooking!
