CROCK POT VENISON CHILI

Crock Pot Venison Chili image

Absolutely delicious venison chili, and super fast prep time. Can also be made with ground beef or turkey. Tastes a lot like Wendy's chili! This was adapted/modified from "Slow-Cooker Hearty Beef Chili" in Kraft Food & Family Fall 2008 issue.

Time 10h15m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 lb ground chuck
2 onions, chopped
1 small jalapeno pepper
1 garlic clove, minced
2 teaspoons hot sauce (add more if you like it hotter)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 bell peppers, chopped (red or green)
1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
2 cups water
2 (16 ounce) cans dark red kidney beans
5 ounces medium cheddar, shredded

  • put into crock pot with all ingredients, except beans.
  • cook on low for 8 to 10 hours, adding beans the last hour.
  • serve hot and top with shredded cheese.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of venison: For chili, chuck roast or stew meat are good choices as they have a good amount of fat and connective tissue that will break down and flavor the chili.
  • Brown the venison before adding it to the slow cooker: This will help to develop flavor and prevent the meat from becoming tough.
  • Use a variety of beans: This will add texture and flavor to the chili. Some good choices include kidney beans, black beans, and pinto beans.
  • Add plenty of spices: Chili is a great dish to experiment with different spices. Some good choices include chili powder, cumin, oregano, and garlic powder.
  • Let the chili simmer for at least 4 hours: This will allow the flavors to meld and the meat to become tender.
  • Serve the chili with your favorite toppings: Some good choices include shredded cheese, sour cream, and chopped onions.

Conclusion:

Spicy Crock Pot Deer Chili is a hearty, flavorful dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you have some venison, be sure to try this recipe.
