1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper (or red chili flakes)

Tips for Making the Best Spicy Chinese Green Beans:

  • Choose the right green beans: Look for fresh, tender green beans that are not too thick or woody. Avoid beans that are bruised or have brown spots.
  • Trim the green beans: Trim the ends of the green beans and cut them into 2-3 inch pieces.
  • Marinate the green beans: Marinating the green beans in a mixture of soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and garlic powder helps to add flavor and keeps them from becoming too dry.
  • Use a hot wok or skillet: A hot wok or skillet is essential for getting a good sear on the green beans and preventing them from becoming soggy.
  • Stir-fry the green beans until they are tender: Stir-fry the green beans for 3-4 minutes, or until they are tender-crisp. Be careful not to overcook them, as they will become mushy.
  • Add the sauce and cook until thickened: Add the sauce to the green beans and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened. Be sure to stir constantly to prevent the sauce from burning.
  • Serve immediately: Spicy Chinese green beans are best served immediately, while they are still hot and crispy.
