Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 large russet potatoes, cut into 1/4" wide fries, unpeeled
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup v-8 juice
1 Tbl. chili powder
1 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2-1 tsp. cayenne
1 tsp. sugar
1 Tbl. salt, or to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a large cookie sheet. Fill a large bowl with cold water, add the potatoes, and allow to soak for 10 minutes. Whisk together the oil, v-8 and rest of ingredients in large bowl. Drain the potatoes, and pat dry with paper towels. Toss the potatoes with the oil and spice mixture; stir until evenly coated. Arrange fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake fries in preheated oven for 20 minutes. Turn and continue to bake until browned and crispy, about 20 more minutes.

Tips:

  • Use russet potatoes: They're the best type of potato for fries because they're low in starch and high in solids, which results in a crispy fry.
  • Cut the potatoes into even-sized strips: This will help them cook evenly.
  • Soak the potatoes in water for at least 30 minutes before frying: This will help to remove excess starch and make the fries crispier.
  • Fry the potatoes in hot oil: The ideal temperature for frying is between 325°F and 350°F.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: This will cause the fries to stick together and not cook evenly.
  • Cook the fries in batches: This will help to prevent them from getting soggy.
  • Season the fries with salt and pepper immediately after frying: This will help the seasoning to adhere to the fries.
  • Serve the fries hot with your favorite dipping sauce: Some popular dipping sauces for chili fries include ketchup, mayonnaise, and ranch dressing.
