Steps:
- Wash and drain the shrimp.
- In a large saute pan or Dutch oven, combine the beer, thyme, dry mustard, bay leaves, garlic, salt, freshly ground black pepper, and 1 Tablespoon each of parsley and chives.
- Bring to a boil, add the shrimp and cook just until the shellfish turns bright pink, about 1 minute.
- Remove the bay leaves and serve from the pot or transfer the shrimp to a large bowl.
- Make a butter dipping sauce by melting butter in a small saucepan.
- Into melted butter stir lime juice, 2 Tablespoons each of parsley and chives, and hot pepper sauce to taste.
- Peel and eat shrimp to your heart's content - dipping in the butter sauce or just plain.
Tips:
- Choose the right shrimp. For this recipe, medium or large shrimp are best. Avoid shrimp that are too small, as they will overcook easily.
- Be careful not to overcook the shrimp. Shrimp cook very quickly, so it's important to keep an eye on them and remove them from the heat as soon as they are opaque and pink.
- Make sure the beer is cold. The cold beer will help to quickly steam the shrimp and prevent them from becoming tough.
- Use a variety of spices in the cocktail sauce. This will give the sauce a more complex flavor.
- Serve the shrimp immediately after they are cooked. This will ensure that they are at their best.
Conclusion:
This spicy beer-steamed shrimp with kicked-up cocktail sauce is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. The shrimp are cooked in a flavorful beer broth and then served with a spicy cocktail sauce. This dish is sure to be a hit at your next party or gathering.
