This is the best BBQ beans ever. Each time this stuff is reheated it seams to taste better. It also freezes very well for later use.

HEALTHY/SPICY BARBECUE BAKED BEANS AND SPINACH
I originally got this recipe from Eating Well magazine. It was a baked beans and sausage dish. We were making bbq chicken on the grill, so I figured why not try it without the sausage. My bf said it was way better than the original recipe, so I thought I should post it. Feel free to experiment with the beans. I have made it with white kidneys beans and it is still yummy. If you are watching your weight this is a great, easy to prepare side dish for the summer months! Note: Make sure to rinse the beans it will cut down the sodium in this dish, so don't be afraid of the nutrition facts. I don't think recipezaar takes into account rinsing the beans when it figures the nutrition information.

Steps:
- For barbecue sauce, sauté onions and garlic in canola oil until slightly golden. Add remaining suace ingredients, stir and simmer about 45 minutes. Makes about 3-1/2 cups For baked beans: Sauté the bacon until almost done. Add this to sauce ingredients. Cook the beans until tender, then add enough sauce to cover, and bake at 300 3-5 hours.
Tips:
- Choose the right beans: Pinto beans or navy beans are the most common beans used in spicy barbecue beans, but you can also use other types of beans, such as black beans or kidney beans.
- Soak the beans overnight: Soaking the beans overnight will help to reduce the cooking time and make them more tender.
- Use a good quality barbecue sauce: The barbecue sauce is the key ingredient in this recipe, so make sure to use a sauce that you enjoy the taste of.
- Add some spice: If you like your beans spicy, add some chili powder, cayenne pepper, or diced jalapeños.
- Don't overcook the beans: Overcooked beans will be mushy and lose their flavor.
Conclusion:
Spicy barbecue beans are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for potlucks, picnics, or any other casual gathering. So next time you are looking for a tasty and satisfying dish to serve, give spicy barbecue beans a try.
