Number Of Ingredients 18

1 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
2 tablespoons mirin or rice-wine vinegar
1/4 cup chili sauce
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
1 tablespoon grated ginger
1 teaspoon coarse salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
2 teaspoons sesame seeds
1/2 small head red cabbage (about 1 pound)
1/2 head napa cabbage (about 1 pound)
1 turnip, peeled (about 9 ounces)
1 small daikon, peeled (about 8 ounces)
1 large carrot, peeled
4 scallions, thinly sliced on the diagonal
1 red bell pepper, seeded and thinly sliced
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh mint leaves
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro

Steps:

  • Make the dressing: In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sesame oil, vinegar, chili sauce, lime juice, ginger, salt, pepper, and sesame seeds; set dressing aside.
  • Make the slaw: Core the red and napa cabbages, quarter, and slice very thinly. Transfer to a large bowl. Fill bowl with cold water to cover cabbage. Swish cabbage around with hands so any dirt settles to the bottom of the bowl. Lift cabbage, and transfer to a colander to drain. Place in large bowl; set aside.
  • Using the large holes of a box grater, grate the turnip, daikon, and carrot. Add to bowl of cabbage along with scallions, red bell pepper, mint, and cilantro. Add reserved dressing, and toss to combine. Cover with plastic wrap, and let sit at least 2 hours in the refrigerator, but preferably overnight. Serve chilled. Will keep in refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Time 55m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 20

1 cup mayonnaise
1 -2 tablespoon chili sauce, such as Sriracha
1 tablespoon bruised and finely minced lemongrass
1 lime (zest and juice)
kosher salt & freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 lbs ground chicken, half dark and half white meat
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 tablespoon soy sauce
4 garlic cloves, minced
4 scallions, green and white parts minced
kosher salt & freshly ground black pepper
4 hamburger buns with sesame seeds, halved and buttered
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
kosher salt and black pepper
2 tablespoons thinly sliced pickled ginger
3 cups napa cabbage, finely shredded
1/4 red bell pepper, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • For the spicy lemongrass mayo:.
  • Mix together the mayonnaise, chili sauce, lime zest and juice and lemongrass in a small bowl. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
  • For the Asian chicken burger:.
  • Combine the chicken, hoisin, sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic and scallions in a large bowl. Mix together and form into 4 equal patties about 1/2-inch thick and 4 inches wide. This patty will be a bit wetter than your average patty because of the sauces and flavor in there. Sprinkle each side of the patties generously with salt and pepper. Create a small well in the center of each patty, using your thumb.
  • Cook your patties on the griddle over medium heat until golden brown on each side and 160 degrees F, 4 to 5 minutes per side. Because of the sugar content in these patties, they can burn easily so watch your heat. Let rest 5 minutes. Place your buns on the griddle and toast them.
  • For the slaw:.
  • Add the rice wine vinegar to a mixing bowl and whisk in the sesame oil and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Add the ginger, cabbage and peppers and toss to coat with the dressing. Adjust the seasoning and let sit 20 minutes to let the flavors meld together before serving.
  • For assembling:.
  • Place some of the spicy lemongrass mayo on each side of the buns. Add the chicken patties and top with the Pickled Asian Slaw. Finish with the top bun and serve with additional slaw and mayo on the side.

Meatballs in a Sweet 'n Spicy Asian Sauce With Warm Asian Slaw image

This is a great way to take a classic meatball and make it a little modern with an Asian sauce instead.....trust me......everyone will love them! I made yet, another batch of my quick and delicious Nana's Meatballs. I love making a recipe that I can use in different ways. I used half of the meatballs to have with a traditional red sauce over pasta and the other half with the Asian Sauce. I had two totally different dishes. I like serving the Spicy Asian Meatballs as an appetizer on top of a bed of this delicious Warm Asian Slaw. The next time you want to make meatballs, surprise your family and friends with a little something different. Enjoy!

Spicy BBQ Tempeh Sandwich with Sweet Potato Wedges and Asian Slaw image

Provided by Food Network

Time 40m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 cup finely shredded green cabbage
1/2 cup finely shredded red cabbage
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
1 fresh lime, juiced
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 large sweet potatoes
4 tablespoons canola oil, plus more for sauteing
2 (8-ounce) tempeh cakes
2 cups water
1 cup lite soy sauce
1 cup barbecue sauce
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon brown sugar

Steps:

  • Asian Slaw: Combine green cabbage, red cabbage, and carrots and toss in a medium serving bowl. Whisk together rice wine vinegar, sugar, lime juice, ground ginger, and salt and pour over salad mixture. Toss and chill until serving.
  • Sweet Potato Wedges: Cut each sweet potato into eighths. With a pastry brush, coat each piece lightly with canola oil. Bake in a preheated 425 degree F oven for 20 minutes or until tender. Set aside and keep warm until serving.
  • Tempeh: Cut each tempeh cake in half and then cut each piece in two lengthwise. You should end up with 4 semi-square pieces. Score each piece on both sides, diagonally, about 1/8-inch deep. Repeat scoring in opposite direction to create a diamond pattern. In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups water to boil, add tempeh cakes, and steam for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and place tempeh in a flat bowl or square baking pan and pour soy sauce over top, making sure each piece gets coated. Let set for 5 minutes.
  • Arrange tempeh on lightly oiled baking sheet. With a pastry brush, lightly coat the top of each tempeh cake, top and bottom, with barbecue sauce.
  • Caramelized Onions: In a medium non-stick skillet, heat canola oil over medium-high heat and add sliced onion. Saute onion until translucent, add the brown sugar, and continue cooking another 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Assembly: Place 1 or 2 slices of BBQ tempeh in a whole grain sandwich bun. Top with caramelized onions. Place on a plate with 4 sweet potato wedges and a serving of Asian slaw. Have a small bowl of barbecue sauce on the side.
  • Beverage suggestion: Loose and/or bag Green Tea

a coleslaw recipe I found in a magazine...

Categories     Other Salads

Number Of Ingredients 18

dressing
1/2 c unseasoned rice vinegar
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
2 Tbsp sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
1 Tbsp dark sesame oil
2-4 tsp chinese chili paste with garlic
1 piece fresh ginger (approx 1 inch) finely grated
SALAD
2 heads baby bok choy, finely shredded, or 2 c thinly sliced snow peas
1 small head napa cabbage, quartered, cored, and very finely shredded (about 4 cups)
1/2 small head red cabbage, cored and very finely shredded (about 4 cups)
1/2 small white onion, finely chopped and rinsed
1 small red bell pepper, seeded and diced
3 green onions, thinly sliced
1/4 c chopped fresh cilantro
1/4 c sesame seeds
3/4 c honey roasted peanuts, coarsely chopped

Steps:

  • 1. Dressing: Mix vinegar, oil, sugar, soy, sesame oil, chili paste and ginger in a jar with tight fitting lid. Cover and refrigerate up to 1 week.
  • 2. Salad: Mix all remaining ingredients except peanuts, in a large bowl. Refrigerate, covered, up to 2 days.
  • 3. Shortly before serving, toss salad mixture with dressing to coat. Serve sprinkled with peanuts. Refrigerate leftovers.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cabbage: Green cabbage is the most common type used in Asian slaw, but you can also use red cabbage or a combination of both. If you're using green cabbage, be sure to thinly slice it so that it's easy to eat.
  • Use fresh vegetables: The fresher the vegetables, the better your slaw will taste. Look for vegetables that are crisp and brightly colored.
  • Don't overdress the slaw: A little bit of dressing goes a long way. If you add too much, the slaw will become soggy.
  • Chill the slaw before serving: This will help the flavors to meld and the slaw will be more refreshing.
  • Serve the slaw as a side dish or as a topping for tacos, burgers, or grilled fish: This slaw is a versatile dish that can be enjoyed in many different ways.

Conclusion:

Spicy Asian slaw is a delicious and refreshing dish that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a healthy and flavorful side dish, give this spicy Asian slaw a try.
