These spiced nuts with chaat masala are tangy, spicy, and the perfect thing to nibble on with drinks during the holidays.

Provided by Rachel Gurjar

Time 15m

Yield Makes about 5 cups

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 Tbsp. chaat masala
1 Tbsp. cayenne pepper
2 tsp. sugar
2 cups cornflakes
1 cup raw almonds
1 cup raw cashews
1 cup raw pecans
3 Tbsp. vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Whisk chaat masala, cayenne, and sugar in a small bowl to blend. Combine cornflakes, almonds, cashews, and pecans in a medium bowl.
  • Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium. Add cornflake mixture and toss to coat. Cook, tossing often, until fragrant and beginning to turn golden brown, about 5 minutes.
  • Transfer cornflake mixture to a rimmed baking sheet and sprinkle half of chaat masala mixture over; toss to coat. Sprinkle remaining chaat masala mixture over and toss to coat again. Let cool, then transfer to a large bowl. Do ahead: Nut mix can be made 1 week ahead. Store airtight at room temperature.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of nuts: This recipe calls for a mix of almonds, cashews, pecans, and peanuts, but you can use any type of nut you like. Just make sure they are all unsalted and roasted.
  • Add some heat: The cayenne pepper in this recipe gives it a nice kick, but you can adjust the amount to your taste. If you like things really spicy, you can also add a pinch of chili powder or red pepper flakes.
  • Don't overcook the nuts: The nuts should be toasted, but not burnt. Keep a close eye on them while they are cooking and stir them frequently.
  • Let the nuts cool completely: Before you add the dressing, let the nuts cool completely. This will help the dressing to adhere to the nuts.
  • Store the nuts in an airtight container: The nuts can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

These spicy Asian sesame mixed nuts with corn nuts are a delicious and addictive snack that is perfect for parties, potlucks, or just enjoying at home.
