SPICY OVEN-ROASTED PLUMS

Spicy Oven-Roasted Plums image

Several years ago I was looking for a recipe to take advantage of our bumper crop of plums, and came across a recipe similar to this. After tweaking a bit, I have come up with a very versatile version that my family and friends love. Season with ground white pepper and use it as a side dish for pork or chicken. Sprinkle with toasted almonds and spoon it over vanilla bean ice cream, angel food, or pound cake for dessert! Play around with the spice combination by adding cloves, allspice, or cayenne. Be adventurous!

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use ripe, in-season plums. If your plums are not quite ripe, you can let them sit at room temperature for a few days to ripen.
  • To easily remove the pits from the plums, cut them in half and twist the two halves in opposite directions. The pit will pop right out.
  • If you don't have any ground cinnamon or nutmeg, you can use 1 teaspoon of ground allspice instead.
  • Be sure to grease and flour your loaf pan before baking. This will help the bread to rise evenly and prevent it from sticking to the pan.
  • Bake the bread for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the bread is browning too quickly, you can tent it with aluminum foil.
  • Let the bread cool completely before slicing and serving. This will help to prevent the bread from crumbling.

Conclusion:

This spiced plum bread is a delicious and easy-to-make treat that is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a snack. The bread is moist and flavorful, with a hint of spice from the cinnamon and nutmeg. The plums add a touch of sweetness and tartness. This bread is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
