HOLIDAY SPICED NUTS

My inspiration for posting this recipe was from one I tried from JAP called Sweet Spiced Nuts by Beth McDaniel. I didn't have all the ingredients to make her recipe verbatim. I tweaked it a bit & doubled it. I'll link the two recipes. *** Oh, this recipe can be halved, but they get gobbled up way too fast and you just end up...

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 lb nuts (i used pecan, almond, cashew, peanut)
2 egg whites
1/8 c ice cold water
2 c splenda granular
3 Tbsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 250º. Liberally spray 2 jelly roll pans with cooking spray.
  • 2. Combine Splenda, cinnamon, salt, ginger & nutmeg and set aside.
  • 3. Whip egg whites with cold water till foamy & frothy, but not stiff. You don't want to see any peaks. Add spiced Splenda mixture and mix well.
  • 4. Add nuts and stir to coat.
  • 5. Spread nuts evenly on the two jelly roll pans. Try to keep the nuts in a single layer.
  • 6. Bake for up to 2 hours, stirring the nuts about every 30 minutes till they are really dry and toasty. Each time you stir the nuts rotate the pans.
  • 7. Remove from oven and enjoy!!!!! These are super yummy!!!

Tips:

  • Use fresh nuts. Stale nuts will not have as much flavor and will be more likely to burn.
  • Roast the nuts before adding the spices. This will help to bring out their flavor and make them more crunchy.
  • Use a variety of spices. The recipe in the article is just a starting point. Feel free to experiment with different combinations of spices to find a blend that you like.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan. If you overcrowd the pan, the nuts will not roast evenly.
  • Keep an eye on the nuts while they are roasting. Nuts can burn quickly, so it is important to watch them closely and stir them often.
  • Let the nuts cool completely before storing them. This will help to prevent them from becoming soggy.

Conclusion:

Spiced holiday nuts are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or gift. They are perfect for parties, potlucks, or just to enjoy at home. With a variety of flavors to choose from, there is sure to be a spiced holiday nut recipe that everyone will love. So next time you are looking for a festive and flavorful snack, give spiced holiday nuts a try.
