Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: For this recipe, tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best. They hold their shape well when cooked and have a nice balance of sweetness and tartness.
  • Make sure the apples are peeled and cored evenly: This will help ensure that they cook evenly.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the apples, make sure to leave enough space between them so that they can cook evenly.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pan: This will help prevent the apples from burning.
  • Cook the apples over medium-low heat: This will help them to soften without burning.
  • Stir the apples occasionally: This will help prevent them from sticking to the pan.
  • Add the spices towards the end of cooking: This will help to preserve their flavor.
  • Serve the sundaes immediately: This is when they are at their best.
