Time 1h20m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 pounds lean ground beef
2 large yellow onions, chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
3 cups water
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons dried Italian herb seasoning
3 bay leaves
1 tablespoon seasoned salt, or to taste
2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni

Steps:

  • Cook and stir the ground beef in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, breaking the meat up as it cooks, until the meat is no longer pink and has started to brown, about 10 minutes. Skim off excess fat, and stir in the onions and garlic. Cook and stir the meat mixture until the onions are translucent, about 10 more minutes.
  • Stir water, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, soy sauce, Italian seasoning, bay leaves, and seasoned salt into the meat mixture and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir macaroni into the mixture, cover, and simmer over low heat until the pasta is tender, about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, discard bay leaves, and serve.

From Healthy Cooking. I'm always looking for a new way to serve ground beef, particularly in these days of higher prices! I sprinkle some shredded cheddar cheese on the top when serving.

COUNTRY GOULASH

My grandfather came from Hungary when he was three. My grandmother made this recipe for a taste of home for him. It is Americanized, but still delicious. He added sour cream to his, while we kids we ate it plain. The consistency grandma made was like a casserole or stew rather than a soup.

SOUTHWESTERN GOULASH

Southwestern Goulash image

My sweetie's mom and I had the same idea for dinner last night, so I put my dinner on the back burner so I could enjoy her delicious goulash. For tonight's dinner, I needed to use the ingredients I had planned to use for my goulash the previous night. However I wanted to mix up the flavor so we wouldn't be having essentially the same dish two nights in a row. And thus...a recipe was born! Note that using a tri-color mix of peppers makes the dish just beautiful!
