Tips:

  • For a spicier cornbread, add 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the dry ingredients.
  • To make the cornbread even more flavorful, use freshly roasted corn kernels. Simply roast the corn kernels in a preheated 400°F oven for 10-12 minutes, then let them cool before adding them to the batter.
  • If you don't have a cast iron skillet, you can bake the cornbread in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Just be sure to grease the dish before adding the batter.
  • Be careful not to overmix the batter. Overmixing will make the cornbread tough.
  • Let the cornbread cool for at least 10 minutes before cutting and serving. This will help it to hold its shape.

Conclusion:

This Southwest cornbread bake is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any occasion. The cornbread is moist and flavorful, and the toppings add a nice kick of spice. Whether you're serving it for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion, this cornbread bake is sure to be a hit.
