SOUTHERN SWEETENED ICED TEA

The best way to get great iced tea - something the South is known for. Not heating the water prevents bitterness.

Provided by BogeysMom

Categories     Beverages

Time 1h10m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 quarts water
2 family sized tea bags (preferably a cold brew variety)
1 cup sugar or 1 cup Splenda sugar substitute
ice

Steps:

  • Fill a 2 qt pitcher (that's pitcha in the South) about halfway up with ice.
  • Clip the clothespin onto the side of the pitcher and"hang" the tea bags through it (keeps the paper from getting in the tea and makes the bags easier to retrieve- you don't want to be seen with your hand in the pitcher here in the South).
  • Pour the sugar or Splenda on top of the ice cubes and now fill the pitcher up with water.
  • Let sit about an hour, pull out tea bags and serve.

Number Of Ingredients 3

4 luizianne family-size tea bags
3/4 cup sugar (to taste)
hot water

Steps:

  • Heat a full cup of water in the microwave until boiling hot. I use a large measuring cup.
  • Submerge tea bags in water and let steep 3 minutes or until water gets dark.
  • Pour dark water into pitcher. Refill cup with hot water from the faucet and let steep for 2 minutes.
  • Add sugar to pitcher. Stir until dissolved.
  • Add hot water from cup and than fill the rest of the pitcher with hot water from the sink. Stir and Refrigirate.
  • Enjoy!
  • I refill my cup and let steep 4 times, but it depends on how dark you like your tea. If you are in a rush, 1 steep will do.

Nutrition Facts : Calories 72.6 calories, Carbohydrate 18.7 g, Sodium 41.3 mg, Sugar 18.7 g

Tips:

  • Use loose-leaf tea. Loose-leaf tea produces a more flavorful iced tea than tea bags.
  • Choose the right tea. Black tea is the traditional choice for sweet iced tea, but you can also use green tea or herbal tea.
  • Steep the tea properly. The longer you steep the tea, the stronger the flavor will be. However, steeping the tea for too long can make it bitter.
  • Sweeten the tea to taste. You can use sugar, honey, or another sweetener to sweeten your iced tea.
  • Serve the tea over ice. Iced tea is best served cold and refreshing.
  • Garnish the tea with lemon slices, mint leaves, or other desired garnishes.

Conclusion:

Southern sweet iced tea is a refreshing and flavorful drink that is perfect for any occasion. With just a few simple ingredients and steps, you can make your own delicious iced tea at home. So next time you're looking for a refreshing drink, give southern sweet iced tea a try!
