SOUTHERN SPICED TEA
This is my mother's recipe, originally from the 1800's, modern conversions are in parentheses. I grew up drinking it in the winter but like it year round, even iced. I suggest letting the flavors in the tea blend before you serve it, the cloves will become more pronounced. No offense to you powdered spiced tea people, but this is the real thing!

- Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, flavorful ingredients will make a big difference in the taste of your spiced tea. Look for loose-leaf black tea, whole spices, and fresh ginger.
- Adjust the spices to your taste: The amount of spices you use is up to you. If you like a mild flavor, start with a small amount and increase it to taste. If you prefer a more intense flavor, use more spices.
- Let the tea steep for a while: The longer you steep the tea, the more flavor it will have. For a strong cup of tea, steep it for at least 5 minutes. For a milder cup of tea, steep it for 3-4 minutes.
