SOUTHERN-STYLE EGG SALAD

Southern-Style Egg Salad image

Southern egg salad, primarily used for sandwiches. Serve on fresh bread of your choice. My wife likes to make double-decker sandwiches (utilizing whole wheat bread for the center slice) with pimento cheese on the other half. Trim the edges and cut into 2 or 3 pieces. Great for tailgating.

Tips:

  • Use fresh eggs: For the best flavor and texture, use fresh eggs that are less than two weeks old.
  • Hard-boil the eggs perfectly: To ensure the eggs are cooked through but not overcooked, place them in a single layer in a saucepan and cover them with cold water. Bring the water to a boil, then cover the pan and remove it from the heat. Let the eggs stand for 10-12 minutes, then drain the hot water and immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Mash the eggs with a fork: For a classic egg salad texture, mash the eggs with a fork until they are finely chopped. If you prefer a smoother texture, you can use a potato masher or food processor.
  • Add your favorite ingredients: The possibilities are endless when it comes to adding ingredients to egg salad. Some popular options include celery, onion, pickles, mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and pepper. You can also add chopped herbs, such as parsley, dill, or chives.
  • Chill the egg salad before serving: For the best flavor and texture, chill the egg salad for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the salad to firm up.

Conclusion:

Southern egg salad is a classic dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make, delicious, and versatile. Whether you are serving it as a sandwich filling, a salad, or a dip, this egg salad is sure to be a hit. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy meal, give this recipe a try.
