1 teaspoon sugar, divided
2/3 cup sugar, divided
1 cup warm water (110 - `115 degrees)
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup boiling water
2 eggs
7 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • in a bowl, dissolve yeast and 1 tsp sugar in warm water; let stand for 5 minutes. In a mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening, salt and remaining sugar. Add boiling water; cool to 110 degrees, Add yeast mixture and eggs;mix well, Stir in enough flour to form a soft dough, turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.
