3 tablespoons soft butter
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 cups bread flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon italian seasoning
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon melted butter
1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Place all dough ingredients in your bread machine pan according to manufacturers direction.
  • Select dough setting.
  • When dough cycle is complete, turn out onto floured board and divide dough in half.
  • Cut each portion into 12 pieces and roll each piece into a 4 to 6" rope.
  • Place 2" apart onto greased baking sheets.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 20 minutes or until doubled.
  • Bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Immediately brush with butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  • Note: Be careful not to overbake or they will become tough.

Tips:

  • To achieve the perfect dough texture, make sure the water is lukewarm (around 110°F or 45°C) before activating the yeast. Lukewarm water helps the yeast bloom and become active, which is essential for a successful rise.
  • For a crispier breadstick, bake them at a higher temperature (450°F or 230°C) for a shorter duration. Keep a close eye on the breadsticks to prevent over-browning.
  • For a softer breadstick, bake them at a lower temperature (375°F or 190°C) for a longer duration. This method results in a tender and fluffy texture.
  • Feel free to experiment with different toppings and seasonings to create variations of the classic breadstick. Popular options include garlic butter, herbs, cheese, and spices.
  • To ensure even baking, place the breadsticks on a baking sheet with enough space between them. Overcrowding the sheet can result in uneven cooking.

With careful attention to the dough preparation, baking temperature, and topping choices, you can create delicious and versatile breadsticks that will impress your family and friends.
