Tips:

  • Use cold butter: Cold butter will help the cookies hold their shape better in the oven. You can chill the butter in the freezer for 30 minutes before using it.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy: This will help the cookies be more tender and flavorful. You can use a stand mixer or a hand mixer to do this.
  • Gradually add the flour: Adding the flour all at once can make the dough tough. Add it gradually and mix until the dough just comes together.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes: Chilling the dough will help the cookies hold their shape better in the oven. You can chill the dough for up to 24 hours.
  • Bake the cookies until they are just set: Overbaking the cookies will make them dry and crumbly. Bake them until the edges are just starting to brown and the centers are still soft.
  • Roll the cookies in powdered sugar while they are still warm: This will help the powdered sugar stick to the cookies and give them a classic snowball look.
